CONCRETE DEFECTS & QUALITY ASSESSMENT
CONCRETE DEFECTS AND QUALITY ASSESSMENT
ULTRASONIC PULSE ECHO - TOMOGRAPHY
Defects in concrete can occur during and after construction. During construction, poor consolidation can lead to air voids, honey combing, or concrete cracks during curing. Besides, defects may also develop as a result of concrete aging or overloading. Visual inspections will not locate embedded flaws in a structure or measure the extent of a visible defect projects (depth) into the structure.
Developing defects and cracks in structure may cause long term corrosion which further enhance delamination and spalling damage to the structure. Structural support with scouring of supporting earth is even more of a concern due to underground water flow.

Ultrasonic Pulse Echo testing is a non-destructive method, ideal for assessment of thickness measurements of concrete elements, detecting subsurface defects, honeycombs, delamination and voids, and localizing objects in concrete which cannot be easily detected by other technology. This includes the assessment of thick concrete elements such as tunnel linings, as well as pipes and tendon ducts beyond the rebar layer. UPE extends the ultrasonic application to objects where assess is restricted to a single side. This method does not damage the concrete, and required dry point contact with the surface of concrete.
Apart from that, UPE is also well suited for scanning of steel fiber reinforced concrete, where electromagnetic methods such as those employed by Ground Penetrating Radar and cover meters, do not work on this material. If has also been used to evaluate the grouting of post tension tendon ducts and to confirm left in place form work is correctly filled with good consolidation.
Our Pundit Live Array instrument offers high-resolution multiple channel (8 channels-transducer) pulse echo technology, with unique AI features and smart positioning system to detect the position in real-time, and the penetration can reach up to 2 meter depth or more.
